The Self-Employment Income Scheme

Much has been written about the steps taken to protect employees (and indeed employers) in the current COVID 19 lockdown.  The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced on 26 March 2020 the Government’s plans to launch the Self-Employed Income Scheme (“SEISS”). The purpose of the SEISS is to make a payment to those self-employed individuals whose business has been adversely affected as a direct result of Coronavirus. The Treasury provided further information on 1 May 2020.  HMRC will formally begin the process on 4 May 2020.
