Why employers are liable for staff misbehaviour?

The potential liability of an employer for the acts and omissions of their staff should be well known. The scope of this obligation is however sometimes rather less well understood.  It does not matter if the employer itself is not at fault: it is, however, imperative that the acts of the employee, for which the employer is being held responsible, were carried out “in the course of employment”. This type of liability is often described as vicarious liability.
